EternalKeys is Mimmo D’Ippolito’s instrumental project. Mimmo D’Ippolito hails from Carovigno, in Brindisi, Italy and began his music studies when he was eleven. He defines himself as a keyboardist, modern composer and arranger and confesses his influences range from genres as diverse as rock, classical, electronic and soundtracks, and admires composers such as Hans Zimmer, Dead Can Dance, Bruno Sanfilippo, Depeche Mode, etc…

Up to this point, he has released the EP “Eternalkeys” (2008), “M. D’Ippolito’s Eternalkeys” two years later, “Eternalkeys 2”, full album in 2011 and this “Arcanum Secret” in 2013.

With “Arcanum Secret”, Mimmo indeed showcases a wide variety of styles and also a crucial characteristic in his music: it’s highly cinematic; hence it has been used by some independent video makers for short films and movies. His music is multi-dimensional, going through different moods, often in just one track. Mimmo seems to record postcards or snapshots where the themes are constantly changing from one to the next, thus holding the listener’s attention all the way through.
Listen to “Letters And Pages” here.

The album starts with “Letters And Pages”: a minimalist piano welcomes the listener here. An uncomplicated melody reinforced by the warmth of the piano, while a soft wind is blowing outside.
Second War” is a symphonic number that has a dramatic, soundtrack feel to it. Again it has a minimalist, cyclical structure.
Parallelives” is more electronic. Synth pads and soft effects drive this ethereal composition. But wait, then it changes into a much more rhythmic affair, putting the stress on the melody.

On “Memories Gone” a melancholic piano comes back again with the most beautiful tune so far. The piano is only aided by soft pads that highlight its nostalgic mood. Nice one, Mimmo!

Listen to “Memories Gone” here.

Dragon’s Gate” returns us to the dramatic feel of “Second War”. Very cinematic and symphonic as well.
Future City” begins with a mysterious, futuristic atmosphere that soon gives way to a rhythmic track, which goes to show just how versatile Mimmo D’Ippolito is. This track was also released in 2013 on the compilation “NetWare Cope of Heaven” of Electro Arc.

Farewell To Childhood” is a piece on piano and guitar sounds, with a catchy melody.

Monumental Sign” is another symphonic affair, perfect as a soundtrack, akin to “Dragon’s Gate” and “Second War”, very evocative.
Glacial Wind” is a fragile, atmospheric composition at first that all of a sudden changes into an almost dance track, faster than lightning.

Train Bridge” also has beats but, on the whole, it’s quieter than the previous one. After a bridge, it turns more melodic and reflective with a piano lead line which takes the album to its closure.

On the whole, a very varied album that shows Mimmo is an all-terrain expert on many instrumental genres.
